Gary Alan Leonard, 56 of Mexico, died at 5:05 p.m. Saturday, March 31, 2012 at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia.
The visitation for Gary Leonard will be Tuesday, April 3 from 5pm-8pm at Arnold Funeral Home in Mexico, MO.
The funeral will be held Wednesday, April 4 at 2pm at Arnold Funeral Home.
It’s with a sad heart that I report the news that Gary Leonard has passed away this evening at Boone Hospital due to complications from his lung surgery.
I just spoke to Gary’s son-in-law who relayed that the family appreciates the prayers and support of their friends during this time. Arrangements will be made through Arnold Funeral Home in Mexico, MO.
I’ll share more information here when I hear from the family again tomorrow.

I just got a voice mail from Gary’s stepson. Unfortunately, Gary’s condition has deteriorated this morning and doctors are looking at different things. The family is asking for prayers.
As you know, Gary had Lung surgery on Mary 22. The good news is that no cancer was found. However, he developed pneumonia and was placed on a respirator and antibiotic treatment.
I’ll try to get more details by the end of the day.
Just received a phone call from Gary’s wife on Monday afternoon. Gary’s condition has worsened, as he has come down with Pneumonia and is currently on a respirator. He is also receiving an antibiotic treatment.
I will post more as it comes in…
Well, my lung surgery is scheduled for 10 AM tomorrow morning. My birthday – but I figure it’ll make it easy to remember when I had the lung surgery. Actually I have to be at the hospital at 10 AM, the actual surgery will get underway around noon.
I’ll be out of commission for a few days, but I’ve arranged for somebody to post status updates here while I’m incapacitated.
My web hosting fee for the next year is taken care of. Much thanks to those who donated. It’s a relief to have that out of the way.
I washed the car and filled the gas tank.
So I think I’m set.
God only knows how I’ll progress through the surgery.
But I am in good hands. Good doctors. Good nurses at Boone Hospital.
Great support from many friends, far and wide, including a college buddy who I’ve recently reconnected with. It’s great fun talking about what we did in college and what people did to us.
Great support from my family in Mexico, Missouri.
And I’m trying to focus on the improvement to my health in getting the dead/scarred part of the lobe out of me.
I have fought lung infections and partially collapsed lungs since 1975. This brings to a closure the cause of all of that.
By the way, the correct medical term is spontaneous pneumothorax. Hopefully that will be a thing of the past.
Please help Mona in any way you can. It’s going to be a long, rough haul for a while for us.
God will see me through this. I have faith.
God bless you all.
See you on the other side of surgery.
Life is good. God is great.
So it goes.

Here’s your sign, er, my sign….
Thanks Mona and Pizza Hut.
Yes, lung surgery on my birthday, but it’s OK!
God bless you.

Probably not in the manual that says “Things You Expect From Your County Commissioner”
But here’s Steve Hobbs mowing the grass Wednesday afternoon at the courthouse.
And work is progressing on the new elevator for the courthouse.

Following is a news release from Charter. I’ve also found they are doing fiber optic work in Mexico to make it just like the St. Louis Charter system.
NEWS FOR RELEASE: March 21, 2012
Charter to Add 28 HD Channels and Reorganize
Channel Listing by Genre
Even more new HD channels, HD on-demand and on-line choices to come
Customers should reprogram DVRs so they don’t miss a thing!
St. Louis, MO – Charter is getting the word out that it is adding 28 new high definition (HD) channels to customers throughout the communities it serves between April 11 and April 25 (see community rollout timetable below). Charter plans to bring even more HD channels as well as HD on demand and online programming to customers this summer.
In conjunction with these HD channel additions during April, Charter will reorganize its current channel listing, creating genre categories. Due to the relocation of channels, customers should reprogram all DVR series recordings with the new channel locations. Digital View and Digital View Plus channels including faith and values, kids, science, history, news, home and entertainment channels will be located in the 100 channel range. Sports view and league packages will be found in the 200s; adult and pay per view programming will be available in the 400s; the 500s will contain premium services; the 600s through 800s will contain high definition channels; and music, government and education, as well as Charter On Demand will be found in the 900s. Basic and Expanded Basic channels will remain in the first 99 channel listings. The genre-based listing was designed to make it easier to find favorite channels and HD versions of favorites
“We want our customers to have the best in high-definition – from movies to series to educational shows,” said Sean O’Donnell, Charter’s Vice President and General Manager for Missouri and Illinois.“More than 60 percent of U.S. households enjoy HD programming, and we’re committed to providing our customers with the best HD experience. Adding these HD channels at no additional cost to customers helps achieve that goal.
“We also understand that switching channel locations may cause some customer confusion at first, but we’re starting early to educate our customers about the transition and we’re confident our customers will find the category-based groupings more convenient,” added O’Donnell.
Prior to the transition period from April 11 to April 25, this month customers will receive a new channel listing highlighting the 28 new HD channels, and detailing the new location of other channels. Information about channel locations is also available at www.mycharterchannels.com.
An HDTV and a Charter HD receiver are necessary to view programming services in high-definition.
Due to channel repositions, customers should reprogram all DVR series recordings with the new channel locations prior to the roll out date.Charter will roll out the new HD channels and revised channel locations by community as follows:
